Just a few months ago Health Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, legalised the commercial sale of Cannabidiol (CBD). Now, Goodleaf, have opened their doors in Buitenkant Street, Cape Town.
The company will sell a variety of products including drops, vapes and topicals which aim to treat insomnia, chronic pain, epilepsy, and even Parkinson’s.
Inside the store, you will also find a curated collection of books regarding cannabis and CBD, covering everything from making your own edibles, cultivating and growing your own plants, cannabis etiquette and more.
What you need to know
Do their products get you high?
CBD is one of more than 120 compounds called cannabinoids. Unlike other cannabinoids — such as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) — CBD does not produce a euphoric “high” or psychoactive effect. This is because CBD does not affect the same receptors as THC. Hemp contains less than 0.3% of the psychoactive THC.
Do you need a prescription?
Anyone can sell or purchase CBD products, you don’t need to be a pharmacist or have a prescription.
What is CBD good for?
A number of ailments can benefit from CBD including arthritis pain, multiple sclerosis, insomnia, chronic pain, drug withdrawals, seizures, anxiety, diabetes and more. Although more research is required to confirm some uses of CBD oil, it is shaping up as a potentially promising and versatile treatment.
Is it safe?
The hemp extract used is organically grown Swiss highland cannabis. It is ecologically farmed, lab-processed, purified and produced under the strictest safety & quality standards.
How much do the products cost?
Drops: R1 200 – R1 600 per bottle
Vapes: Base price of R400 excluding the corresponding oil
Topicals: R165 – R1 395
