Are you having trouble mastering poses and stretches because your cheap yoga mat keeps slipping and irritating your skin? It sounds like it’s time to invest in the best yoga mat for your sessions, no matter your budget.
There are many yoga mats to choose from. Finding the right one for you can be a bit overwhelming. However, with our yoga mat guide we have selected some brilliant choices to get started.
Gaiam Performance Dry-Grip Yoga Mat 5mm (Best Overall)
Gaiam is one of the biggest and most reliable brands out there at the moment. The Gaiam Performance Dry-Drip Yoga Mat is their best seller – and for a reason. The 5mm mat provides a slip-free session, so there’s no need to worry about your mat moving around.
The mat also features a topcoat that allows moisture to disappear (even for hot yoga!) and grip is much better than most yoga mats out there. It’s also lightweight and durable, which is perfect for taking to classes.
It comes in 3 different colors – black, purple and blue.
Manduka Pro Yoga Mat 6mm (Best Heavy Duty)
This ultra-dense, heavy duty yoga mat is one of the best in its class. Not only is the Manduka Pro available in 16 different funky colors, with their guarantee they promise this yoga mat will never wear out.
I’ve used it for several months on a daily basis and it’s held up brilliantly. There’s been minimal wear over time. It’s made with eco-certified safe PVC and is free from toxins too.
The additional 6mm thickness provides extra support for my weak knees and wrists, so this is the best choice for me. However, this yoga mat isn’t suitable for hot yoga sessions – so look elsewhere.
BalanceFrom GoYoga All-Purpose Yoga Mat with Carrying Strap (Best Budget)
If you’re still a newcomer, and looking for a fantastic all-rounder that won’t break the bank, the BalanceFrom GoYoga All-Purpose Yoga Mat is the best budget yoga mat I’ve used.
At 12.7mm in thickness, it’s much thicker than the other mats but still provides sufficient support from hard floors for beginners. It also features a convenient built-in strap and is available in 7 different colors.
JadeYoga Harmony Mat (Best Eco-Friendly)
As you might expect, most yoga mats are made in China. If you’re an environmentalist and want the best eco-friendly mat, then the JadeYoga Harmony Mat should tick all your boxes.
The Jade Harmony Mat, their most popular yoga mat, is 4.8mm thick- providing great traction and cushion while still providing stability for standing poses.
JadeYoga mats contain no PVC, EVA or other synthetic rubber, and are made in the United States in compliance with all US environmental, labor and consumer protection laws.
And, through their partnership with Trees for the Future, Jade plants a tree for every mat sold – with over ONE MILLION trees planted so far. Plus, the mat comes in 14 different colors. Brilliant!
