It’s not always necessary to have a full tower PC for general use or music production. Technology has reached the point where you can get a pretty decent mini PC with all the latest specifications – just inside a small chassis.
Corsair ONE i164
This Corsair Mini PC isn’t easy on the wallet – but it might be the best premium mini PC that we could find.
Equipped with an Intel Core i9 9900K, 32GB DDR4 RAM and an RTX 2080 Ti – which might be overkill for a music production PC – but definitely useful if you’re involved with video production or play video games.
The Corsair ONE i64 is also a brilliant choice for a music studio as it has an integrated liquid cooling system which is much quieter than fans at high RPM.
For a mini PC, its got a ton of ports including three DisplayPort, one HDMI port, two USB 2.0, four USB 3.1 Gen 1, and two USB 3.1 Gen 2 (Type-A and Type-C). Sadly, there’s no Thunderbolt port, which would have made this the perfect solution.
Zotac Gaming Mek Mini
Zotac might not be a brand you recognize – but the computer hardware manufacturer based in Hong Kong have been making computer parts for more than a decade. The Zotac Gaming Mek Mini packs a decent number of features for an affordable price.
At half the price of the Corsair Mini PC, you’ll get an Intel Core i5-9400F, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 240GB NVMe SSD, 1TTB HDD and more. The dual-storage is useful for music production – put your DAW software on the SSD and your session files on the hard drive.
There’s one HDMI port, three DisplayPort, four USB 3.1, one USB 3.0 Type-C, one USB 3.0, plus an SD Card slot that might be useful if you’re a DJ or videographer. While this unit doesn’t have liquid cooling, it’s still well ventilated and runs at low temperatures.
Intel NUC 9 Extreme Kit
While this is still a barebone kit, which means you will need to install your own SSD and RAM.
The Intel NUC 9 Extreme Kit features an Intel Core i9-9980HK, which isn’t the latest processor on the market, however it’s a highly capable processor.
Plus, this Intel NUC unit includes Thunderbolt 3 support, which might be beneficial for music producers. Connecting external devices won’t be an issue at all.
Since this is a barebone unit – you can install any compatible 32GB DDR4 RAM and a large 1TB M.2 NVMe internal SSD.
