Founded in 1965, Vilar de Mouros is the oldest music festival in Portugal and the Iberian Peninsula. It is sometimes referred to as the Portuguese Woodstock. Held every August in the small riverside village of Vilar de Mouros (Caminha, in the Minho region), the festival has hosted major international acts over the decades, including Bob Dylan, Iron Maiden, The Cure, and Rammstein. It draws a broader, slightly older crowd than some of its neighboring Minho festivals, blending classic and contemporary rock in a scenic countryside setting.
