We were optimistically planning to be back in the bush this November, but things have changed a lot in the last two months with so much uncertainty and rather than leave things to the nail biting last minute that would cause stress for all our team and our patrons we have decided to call it and move our focus to a more realistic goal. With the recent resurgence of COVID-19, the QLD border closures and the tightening of COVID Restrictions in QLD (which currently prevents restricted businesses from operating a ‘Dance Floor’), it has now become apparent it will not be possible to host Rabbits Eat Lettuce in its true form in 2020. With more than 50% of our patrons and performing artists coming from outside QLD as well as market vendors, key event staff, production contractors and stage builders, hosting the event while border closures are in place is simply not possible. We would be heart broken for half our family to miss out and to lose over 50 per cent of our line up.Even on the off chance the QLD border did happen to re-open in time for November, the current COVID restrictions would severely impact the nature of the event you know and love. These include a total ban on ‘Dance Floors and Dancing’ and we can’t imagine Rabbits Eat Lettuce without a dance floor, and all the hugs and high fives that make up the weekend. We take great pride in what Rabbits Eat Lettuce has become over the last 12 years and we love creating a magic space where all our family can reconnect and dance together. The last thing we want is to host an event that falls short of our standard or creates unnecessary pressure on the local community and emergency services.
We hope you are all happy and healthy and using this down time to get creative.
