Devastating Weather Forces Cancellation of Shankra Festival 2024

The highly anticipated Shankra Festival 2024, set to welcome thousands of international psytrance fans from July 10 to 14 in Lostallo, Switzerland, has unfortunately been cancelled due to severe weather conditions.

According to local authorities, the region, currently ravaged by heavy rains and landslides, has rendered essential festival infrastructure unusable.

Lostallo Mayor Nicola Giudicetti conveyed the decision, emphasizing the logistical impossibility of accommodating thousands of festival-goers amidst the current conditions. “Damage to the main festival area between Lostallo town and Sorte, compounded by inaccessible parking facilities, leaves us with no choice but to cancel,” Mayor Giudicetti explained in an interview with LaRegione.

This cancellation echoes last year’s challenges when adverse weather forced stage closures and prompted attendees to seek shelter. Despite meticulous planning by Shankra Festival organizers, nature’s unforgiving hand has once again disrupted what promised to be a vibrant psychedelic music festival.

Originally slated to venture to Sri Lanka for an off-shoot edition, Shankra Festival redirected its focus to Switzerland, only to confront unexpected natural obstacles.

Among the disappointments, the cancellation means missing out on performances by esteemed artists such as Astrix, Electric Universe, X-Dream, Eat Static, Cosmosis, Hallucinogen, Perfect Stranger, Shpongle, Laughing Buddha, Talamsca, Ajja, and more.

In the aftermath of the cancellation, the Shankra Festival crew, already on-site and preparing diligently for the upcoming event, now shifts their focus to ensuring the safety and welfare of all involved.

With the recent report of three individuals missing from the region amidst the storm’s aftermath, community safety concerns loom.

Stay tuned for further developments and announcements regarding Shankra Festival 2024.
