Cape Town voted best city in Africa & Middle East

For the 18th time, Travel + Leisure (T+L) magazine readers have voted Cape Town as the best city in Africa & the Middle East, beating the likes of Tel Aviv in Israel and Cairo in Egypt.

Readers gave scores for key details on each city including culture, cuisine, local friendliness, landmarks, safaris, islands to cruise ships, spas, hotels and airlines.

Commenting on the awards, CEO of Cape Town Tourism, Enver Duminy said: “Considering the difficulties we faced as the leading tourism destination recently, this award is fantastic news for the tourism industry.

Other top cities in Africa & the Middle East include Beirut in Lebanon, Muscat in Oman, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and Luxor in Egypt.

Overall, the three best places in the world to visit this year, according to the T+L readers, are Hoi An in Vietnam, San Miguel de Allende in Mexico and Thailand’s Chiang Mai.
